Customisation and Style: Selecting Colours and Sizes to Suit Your Spa

Picking the Ideal Colour for Your Spa Cover

The colour of your spa cover doesn’t just influence how it looks; it can also affect its performance and longevity. Most spa covers are available in a range of colours, from traditional greens and blues to more neutral tones like grey or black. When choosing a colour, think about the environment where your spa will be located.

Darker colours such as black or charcoal tend to absorb more sunlight, helping to rubbish a little more warmth into the water. This is particularly handy during the cooler months when keeping the water warm is a priority. However, darker shades can also become hotter to touch in strong sunlight, which might be a concern around children or sensitive skin.

On the other hand, lighter colours such as beige, light green, or blue tend to reflect sunlight rather than absorb it. These colours are often chosen by those who want a softer, more natural look that blends seamlessly with garden or patio decor. They can help keep the cover cooler to the touch in the sun, making handling safer and more comfortable.

Some customers opt for customised colours or patterns if they want their spa to stand out as a feature or to match their outdoor aesthetic exactly. While this may cost a little extra, it provides a personalised touch that can make your spa area truly unique.

Choosing the Correct Size for Your Spa Cover

Getting the right size is vital for optimal insulation, protection, and safety. When measuring for your new spa cover, start with the exact dimensions of your spa’s shape and size. Measure the length, width, and, if applicable, the diameter for round spas, including extra space for any manufacturing tolerances.

Always measure at several points across each dimension to account for any irregularities or warping over time. Use a tape measure for accuracy and double-check your measurements before ordering. It’s better to add a small margin of a few millimetres to ensure the cover fits snugly without being too tight, which could damage the cover or the spa.

Most spa covers are custom-made to suit specific sizes. Therefore, providing precise measurements ensures the cover will fit perfectly and perform as intended. If you’re unsure about measuring or if your spa has unusual features such as steps or seating areas, consult your supplier for guidance or ask for a professional measurement service.

Choosing the right size isn’t just about fitting your spa snugly; it’s also about ensuring proper insulation. A cover that is too small may leave gaps, leading to heat loss and increased running costs. Conversely, a cover that is too large may be unnecessarily cumbersome and less aesthetically pleasing.

Styling and Design Considerations

Beyond colour and size, think about the overall style of your spa cover and how it complements your outdoor space. Many covers feature sleek, minimalist designs that blend discreetly into their surroundings, perfect for contemporary settings. Others might have extra features such as handles, lifting straps, or hinges, which add convenience and safety.

Some custom covers add aesthetic touches like contrasting piping, textured finishes, or embossed logos, allowing you to personalise your spa. These details can elevate the look of your outdoor relaxation area and make the cover feel like a designed element rather than just a utilitarian item.

It’s also worth considering the safety features incorporated into your cover’s design. For example, lockable latches or child-proof mechanisms can provide peace of mind when the spa isn’t in use, especially if children or pets live nearby. These features can often be integrated seamlessly into the overall style of the cover without compromising aesthetics.

In addition, think about how your cover will be stored when not in use. Some designs are lightweight and easy to remove, while others are built with robust handles and lifting aids to make handling simpler. Choosing a style that matches your lifestyle will ensure ease of use and long-term satisfaction.

Tailoring Your Cover to Environmental Conditions

The colour choice and materials should also reflect the environment where your spa is situated. For outdoor pools or spas exposed to full sun, a lighter colour might help keep the cover cooler and reduce heat absorption. Conversely, if your spa is in shaded or windy areas, darker colours could help retain heat and protect against the elements.

Consider the durability of the material as well. UV-resistant fabrics or covers with protective coatings can withstand New Zealand’s intense sun and frequent weather changes. These materials maintain their colour and integrity longer, reducing the need for replacements.

In areas prone to heavy rain or high winds, a larger, more secure fit combined with robust lifting mechanisms can prevent damage or accidental removal. Some covers also feature weatherproof seals or drainage channels to keep the spa dry and protected from excess moisture.

Choosing the right colour and size ultimately depends on a balance of aesthetics, function, and environmental factors. By considering how each aspect interacts with your outdoor space and your lifestyle, you can select a cover that not only looks great but performs reliably year after year.

Awesome company, awesome people, awesome product!

We didn't even buy our Trueform pool new from them or reseller, but a mint condition refurbished 'Eco' model from The Spa Guy in Rotorua.

But we still had some questions regarding setup, water treatment etc, and Bridget/Gwen were absolutely amazing with help and advice via multiple calls/emails even though I didn't purchase the pool new.

Highly recommend them and the product they sell, our pool is just the basic entry level pool, but the construction/quality/insulation is the same as the top of their line pools.

If we grow out of this one, or ever want an upgraded pool with more features, we will definitely go Trueform again.
