Storm-Proof Your Sanctuary: Trueform’s Guide to Spa Protection
At Trueform Spa Pools, we believe your spa should be a source of calm — not stress. As wild weather events become more frequent across Aotearoa, we want to help you prepare, protect, and bounce back quickly if your spa ever faces the elements.
Proudly crafted right here in New Zealand, every Trueform Spa is built by Kiwis, for Kiwis — with quality workmanship, local knowledge, and resilience at the heart of what we do. From the rugged coastlines to high-country conditions, we know what our spas need to stand up to the elements, and we’re here to share that know-how with you.
Here’s our expert advice for safeguarding your Trueform Spa during extreme weather — and how to get things back on track if your spa is affected by storms or flooding.
Preparing for Strong Winds
1. Secure the Cover
Always strap your spa cover down tightly using Trueform-approved storm straps. Avoid placing heavy objects on top — this can damage the cover’s internal structure.
2. Clear the Area
Move outdoor furniture, pot plants, and other loose items away from the spa area to reduce the risk of impact damage.
3. Switch Off Power at the Mains
Before the storm hits, turn off the spa’s power supply at the breaker for safety. This protects the electronics from potential surges or water exposure.
Preparing for Flooding
1. Create a Barrier
Use sandbags or water barriers around the base of your spa to prevent floodwaters from pooling or rising too high.
2. Remove Accessories
Store nearby towels, spa pillows, and any portable gear indoors.
3. Turn Off and Unplug
Floodwaters and electricity don’t mix. If flooding is expected, disconnect your spa and avoid using it until it’s been fully inspected.
After the Storm: What to Check
Spa Pools
- Cover & Cabinet: Inspect for cracks, waterlogging, or broken clips.
- Water Quality: If your spa has collected debris or dirty water, drain, flush, and clean it thoroughly before use.
- Filters: Clean or replace spa filters to keep your system running efficiently.
- Internal Components: Check for visible damage. If water has reached inside the cabinet, leave panels off to ventilate and dry.
Important: If you’re unsure about electrical components, don’t risk it — contact a qualified spa technician before turning power back on.
Trueform Tip: “Dry & Diagnose”

If floodwaters reached your spa:
- Photograph the damage for insurance purposes.
- Use a wet/dry vac to remove moisture.
- Allow everything to dry fully before reconnecting.
Spa Sanitisation After Floods:
- Clean all surfaces with a spa-safe antibacterial cleaner.
- Sanitise jets and plumbing systems.
- Replace any items that may have been contaminated.
